Hi. I’m Harry Aldridge, UK Independence Party (UKIP) Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Horsham, and UKIP Prospective MEP candidate for the South East region. I have set up this blog to help communicate with you and post my thoughts on issues so that you can gain a better understanding of my beliefs and principles, and hopefully encourage you to lend me your vote at the next General Election.
I am 22 years old, born 2nd July 1986, and joined UKIP just before the European Parliament elections in 2004, and just before completing my A-Levels in Computing, Economics and German. I joined after my A-Level Economics studies clarified my thinking with regard to the economics of the Single Market and Britain’s wider membership of the European Union. I had always been interested in politics and current affairs and, within the limited choice between the ‘big 3′, would be a Conservative, however the Conservative Party’s wholesale abandonment of their principles, their socially and economically authoritarian stance, and their continuing support for the UK’s continued EU membership, means that I can never support them.
I am a libertarian. I believe in small government, individual freedom, low taxation and light regulation. I joined UKIP solely because of my belief that the UK should leave the political union of the EU in favour of simple free trade, but discovered a party which believed more deeply and passionately in freedom and independence in all areas of life. In UKIP I found a party determined to restore democracy, decentralise power to local communities, free people from over burdensome regulations and trust people - Not just pay lip service to it, but actually believe it and fight for it!
In 2004 UKIP won 2.65 million votes and became the third largest British political party in the European Parliament with 12 MEPs, pushing the Lib-Dems into 4th place. Since June 2004 UKIP MEPs have been working hard to expose the fraud and corruption in the EU and stand up for Britain’s interest. The 3 UKIP MEPs prior to 2004 were the only British MEPs to vote against enlargement of the EU, and did so predicting mass migration to the UK. They said that it was irresponsible not to have a managed immigration policy and simply open the doors to countries with vastly lower wealth, and they were proved right.
We now have 2 members of the House of Lords, our first MP, and many local councillors across the UK working hard to stand up for people, whether it be pressing for an independent cost-benefit analysis of our EU membership or simply opposing ’spy in the bin’ rubbish taxes and above inflation council tax increases which councils are trying to implement.
I am proud to support UKIP because I believe, above all else, that the best people to govern Britain are the British themselves and that our elected representatives should govern according to the will of the British people and not an unelected foreign bureaucracy. But I also believe that politicians need to remember that they serve and represent the people. We must regain our belief in liberty, rather than human rights, for there is a difference. We need to hand back genuine power to local communities rather than impose targets from whitehall. We need to add some common sense to the debate on the environment and oppose the punitive and regressive ‘green’ taxation that is in fashion. People are not stupid and we need to stop treating them as if they are.
Please take some time to look at this blog and find out more about me and UKIP. Please get in touch with any questions you have and I will do my best to answer them fully and promptly. We don’t get much exposure in the media so I hope this blog can help communicate our message. I look forward to the election and hope you might use your vote to vote for common sense and send a message to our increasingly distant political elite that it is us, the people, who matter.
Thank you,
Harry Aldridge
